Movement Voter PAC (MVP), a progressive donor clearinghouse for funding local organizing in battleground states, has brought in a fundraising haul of over $5 million since President Biden left the race on July 21.

“Local voter organizing often accounts for the margin of victory in swing states,” said Zo Tobi, MVP’s director of communications. “It’s amazing to see the surge in Democratic enthusiasm right now — and it’s even more amazing some of that surge is reaching grassroots voter organizing groups in swing states. We’re hoping this is just the beginning.”

In the 2020 elections, MVP funded local groups collective making tens of millions of voter contacts in key states that narrowly swung blue for Biden: Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.

In the 2024 election cycle so far, Movement Voter PAC and its 501(c)(4) affiliate, Movement Voter Project, have moved a total of over $38 million in partisan dollars to local voter mobilization efforts in battleground states and districts, and intends to move a total of $100 million by Election Day.

While candidate campaigns and TV ad blitzes often dominate the media limelight, MVP is part of a growing movement among progressive donors to focus on relational organizing and peer-to-peer voter outreach by year-round grassroots community groups.

According to MVP’s 2024 campaign webpage, their approach to the 2024 elections is to fund “tens of thousands of organizers, canvassers, volunteers, and local influencers having genuine conversations with tens of millions of voters.”

There is a growing body of evidence and research pointing to the outsized impact on voter turnout created by peer-to-peer organizing by these relatively small and often underfunded groups.

“We’re thrilled the Harris campaign is demolishing fundraising records,” Tobi said, “and we’re just as thrilled more donors are putting their money where the votes are — on the ground, with the local groups best positioned to tip the scales this November.”
