Frontline Digest: Primary Victories, Local Advocacy, No War in Iran, More ICE Accountability

BY ANNIE LIPSITZ, MVP DONOR COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

Local organizers around the country are electing bold leaders, protecting their communities, and fighting for policies working-class people need. Here are some of their stories.

It’s Election Season! Primary Victories in NC and TX

North Carolina - VICTORY!

On Tuesday, Carolina Federation, Siembra NC, UNITE HERE, NCAAT in Action, and other MVP partners in North Carolina helped secure pivotal victories for five Democratic NC House candidates. Three of these winners challenged — and beat! — Democratic incumbents who voted repeatedly with Republicans in 2025, while two are Democratic incumbents whose re-election in November will help block a GOP supermajority in the NC House.

These wins will also help Democrats defeat Republicans up and down the ballot in November, including flipping a pivotal U.S. Senate seat and safeguarding a key U.S. House incumbent — so Dems can flip both chambers of Congress. Read more on MVP’s blog.

Texas - Flipping a U.S. Senate Seat?!

On Tuesday, state Rep. James Talarico bested U.S. Rep Jasmine Crocket in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senator. The major headline is that Democratic voters broke turnout records, surpassing that of Republicans. That’s huge and almost unheard-of in this traditionally red state.

Organizers on the ground went all out to get voters to the polls, including LUPE Votes’ annual caravan to the polls and Workers Defense Action Fund’s voter education efforts. Both organizations will also be mobilizing voters for the general election in November to help flip Texas’ U.S. Senate seat for the first time in 30 years.

Fighting for Our Rights at the State and Local Levels

State legislative sessions? Town council meetings? Committee hearings? You name it, and organizers across the country are there advocating for the policies that working-class people, immigrants, rural communities, and others need.

Virginia: New Virginia Majority turned out residents to a Herndon Town Council meeting in support of an affordable housing ordinance, particularly as a way to support immigrants dealing with the threat of ICE and detainment.

Wisconsin: Citizen Action Wisconsin held a press conference with state legislators, announcing a new public option healthcare bill that would expand affordable healthcare in the state, including for small businesses with fewer than 50 employees.

Also in Wisconsin, GROWW (Grassroots Organizing Western Wisconsin) organizers are fighting to roll back the permit of a new factory farm that would have significant environmental and economic impacts in rural western Wisconsin.

Georgia: Georgia Conservation Voters is supporting legislation to ensure Georgians are not footing the bill for large, energy-sucking data centers in the state.

Minnesota: Sometimes it’s about the training! Faith in Minnesota recently convened residents in one state Senate district to learn how to be “People’s Delegates,” and fight for a People’s Agenda: “affordable healthcare, a stable roof over our heads, and the freedom to move through our communities without fear.”

North Carolina: Effective organizing and advocacy always need good stories, especially from unheard voices, like those in rural North Carolina. Down Home NC has launched a new storytelling publication, The Front Porch, which showcases first-person stories from rural North Carolinians around the state.

No War in Iran!

The Trump regime is waging war in Iran, and MVP partners around the country are saying “no” to the administration’s illegal and ill-conceived actions. Although the GOP-led U.S. Senate and House have now both officially opted not to constrain the administration’s actions, providing clear pathways for Americans to speak out and hold this lawless administration accountable is still critically important.

National: Working Families Party and Indivisible urged voters to contact their Congressional leaders to demand they support the War Powers Resolution, which would have reaffirmed that only Congress has the authority to send Americans to war.

Pennsylvania: One Pennsylvania provided a quick and easy way for Pennsylvanians to contact their Congressional leaders, urging them to support the War Powers Resolution.

Maine: Maine People’s Alliance is organizing a protest outside of Senator Susan Collins’ office in Portland, keeping the pressure on in this critical Senatorial swing state.

More ICE Accountability

So long as ICE is terrorizing our neighbors and occupying our cities, organizers across the country are going to resist, fight back, and protect impacted communities.

Georgia: Asian American Advancing Justice-Atlanta is supporting legislation that would weaken state and local law enforcement cooperation with ICE.

North Carolina: Siembra NC is hosting ICE-watch trainings throughout March in communities all across the state.

The cherry on top? Kristi Noem — Department of Homeland Security Secretary and Trump’s top ICE apologist — got fired from her job today. We are grateful for all of the organizers, protestors, activists, and advocates — including many of you — who have been unwavering in demanding “ICE OUT” of our communities and justice for our neighbors. This small win is because of you.
