About MVP

Who We Are

Movement Voter Project funds local organizing and movement-building groups working to shift culture, win power, and shape policy.

MVP operates like a “mutual fund” for political giving: We raise money from donors, then channel it toward the most impactful organizations and power-building work around the country.

We do the research so you don’t have to, streamlining your giving and maximizing your impact by investing in the most effective organizations and innovative strategies. (Bonus: You get to hit "unsubscribe" on all the political fundraising spam in your inbox!)

Our Vision

A hopeful new Progressive Era
in which everyone can flourish.

The Case for MVP

The right has funded and built a stronger movement rooted in long-term grassroots, cultural, and institutional power. It’s time for progressives to catch up. To do that, MVP is investing in three connected strategies:

Strategy #1: Expand Local Organizing

Expand local organizing year-round, in every key state around the country.

Strategy #2: Scale Up New Media

Scale up new media to shape worldviews and win hearts and minds en masse.

Strategy #3: Embolden Democrats

Embolden Democrats to fight for bold, popular agendas that can win back voters we’ve lost.

Our Role

Our role is not to lead the work, but to fund and strengthen the work by investing in organizing, strengthening organizations’ capacity, and maximizing collaboration at every level.

"If you're just doing election work, that's very transactional. Our goal is to be transformative. We are trying to transform the entire political landscape in this country."

What Makes MVP Unique?

On-the-Ground Relationships

Our grantmaking is led by in-house advisors with on-the-ground relationships and deep expertise in organizing, movements, and political strategy.

Builders, Not Just Funders

Our Capacity Building Team supports our grantee partners and allies to strengthen, sustain, and scale their work.

State-Level Power from the Ground Up

We invest in a diversified “ecosystem” of emerging, growing, and established groups working in key states to build lasting power.

"Triple-Bottom-Line" Investment Strategy

We invest in the people, places, and races key to winning elections, building bottom-up power, and creating long-term policy change.

Targeting Every Close Race

We target every key competitive race up and down the ballot — because it's impossible to know in advance which will be the tipping point.

Building a Movement of Donors

Our Donor Organizing Team & volunteer donor organizers are building a movement of committed donors at all levels.

Track Record

2016 - 2018

Laid the Foundation

Deeply dismayed by the 2016 elections, MVP set out to build a scalable model for grassroots-based voter turnout. In Alabama’s special Senate election in 2017, MVP helped seed, incubate, and fund two major locally-driven, Black-led GOTV efforts: Woke Vote and Black Voters Matter Fund. These groups drove historic black turnout that year, and built power for expanded organizing in subsequent years.

2019 - 2020

Flipped Key States

In the 2020 election cycle, MVP helped move over $45 million in political dollars to local partners, who helped beat Trump by just 43,000 votes across three states (Arizona, Georgia, and Wisconsin) and gain pivotal state-level victories across the country.

Then, on January 5, 2021, they helped deliver an unprecedented U.S. Senate double runoff victory in Georgia, securing a narrow Democratic governing trifecta.

2021 - 2022

Defied the Odds

2022 was supposed to be a Red Wave. But MVP partners organized in every competitive House, Senate, and statewide race, picking up a 52nd Senate seat, coming just 6,675 votes shy of holding the House, and expanding Democratic governing power in states across the country.

2024

Stemmed a Red Wave

In the face of devastating losses in the 2024 elections, MVP local partners helped secure critical wins from the Senate down to school boards, all of which will help us meaningfully block Trump’s agenda, improve millions of lives, build state-level power, and win back federal power in 2026 and beyond.

2025

Secured Key Wins

In 2025, MVP partners helped secure incredible victories to beat back autocracy, push for policy progress, and win electoral power. In a stunning comeback from the losses of 2024, our partners' hard work paved the way to flipping the U.S. House and swinging for the fences in 2026.
