David Callahan from Inside Political Money just listed MVP among 13 “Map Expanders” that helped Democrats make “deep inroads” into GOP territory in this week’s Blue Tsunami — a much-needed reminder that these wins didn’t come out of nowhere.
Macroconditions like the war in Iran, high gas prices, and Trump’s disapproval ratings have a lot to do with the results — but without the patient, steady work of year-round, on-the-ground organizing, we wouldn’t be in the same position to seize the opportunities this election cycle has given us.
In the piece, Callahan credits funders doing “the longer-term work of funding organizing and building Democratic infrastructure,” including MVP:
“[MVP] has long invested in organizing and voter engagement in red states, funding scores of groups in Texas, Mississippi, and South Carolina, as well as elsewhere in the South and beyond.”
He also names the case we’ve been making all along for year-round, multiyear investment in grassroots power-building:
“The long-term power-building work of these and other grassroots-focused organizations has often been a tough sell to donors more interested in short-term results. But after Tuesday’s election, that pitch may now be easier to make.”
We hope he’s right — and it’s all of our job now over the coming weeks and months to make sure this is the takeaway from these historic elections.
We on the MVP team are so grateful to everyone who has believed in us, believed in the power of organizing, and invested in our partners for the long haul. This week is what it looks like when it pays off.
