Georgia — the Deep South state that flipped blue in 2020 — has done it again!! MVP partners helped win so many critical races across the Peach State, securing Ws for Democrats from the top of the ticket to the bottom of the ballot.

Jon Ossoff back to the Senate! Flipping the governor’s seat and (probably) the state House!

Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff is cruising back to Washington and, for the first time in more than 25 years, Georgians elected a Democratic governor, with Keisha Lance Bottoms defeating GOP gazillionaire Rick Jackson by a whopping 8+ points to become the country’s first Black woman governor!

That’s not all! We also won two Public Service Commission (PSC) races and races for Lt. Governor, Attorney General, and Secretary of State.

The Public Service Commission sets utility rates and can hold utility companies accountable (or not). The Secretary of State is in charge of election administration. The Attorney General is the state’s top lawyer, enforcing and defending state laws, and the Lt. Governor is second-in-command to the governor. These wins are huge for Georgia’s daily lives.

And we have almost flipped the state House! MVP partners helped flip eight state House seats, moving us closer to the 91 seats needed to win the majority. With 11 races yet to be called and Dems sitting at 87 seats, it’s looking very good. Flipping the state House along with winning the governor’s race will help block 2027 legislative and congressional redistricting and other harmful policies.

Turnout! Turnout! Turnout!

The Peach State was LIT this election season, breaking early vote records and turning it UP on Election Day.

  • Roughly 636,000 Georgians who voted early did not vote in 2022.
  • During early voting, turnout among Black Georgians and young people increased significantly over 2022 numbers.
  • We are still waiting on final Election Day turnout numbers, but we are on track for total turnout in Georgia to surpass 2022 numbers.

MVP partners were locked in

MVP partners were everywhere, locked in on winning races across the state.

Georgia Youth Justice Coalition Action has 12,000 members in more than 125 (out of 159) Georgia counties. They ran one of the state's largest field programs, engaging and mobilizing young people on and off campus to vote in the midterms. They were the only organization in Georgia running a voter contact program across the 16 most competitive state House districts, reaching voters who often didn’t know downballot candidates. GYJC knocked tens of thousands of doors, made more than 400,000 phone calls, and engaged young people around the races they may not have heard of.

Asian American Advocacy Fund PAC (AAAF PAC) mobilized Asian American voters across the state to turn out in support of Ossoff, Lance Bottoms, and a slew of state legislative seats. From cities with high AAPI populations like Duluth, Buford, Cumming, and Woodstock, AAAF PAC brought voter outreach directly to their communities through canvassing, in-language ads, mailers, and culturally specific events. They knocked 76,000+ doors of AAPI and other voters of color, made 106,000+ phone calls, and hosted 27 election-related events. Their work contributed to new voters showing up! Of the 140,628 AAPI voters who voted early, 42,064 did not vote in 2022.

Georgia Equality PAC endorsed dozens of candidates up and down the ballot, from governor to state legislative seats. Throughout the year, they hosted community events — drag bingo, candidate meet-and-greets, and early vote marches — to mobilize Georgians to the polls. They also leveraged Pride Month in June and Atlanta Pride in October to galvanize voters, talk about the issues and candidates on the ballot, and drive voter turnout.

Georgia Conservation Voters Action Fund (GCV Action Fund) endorsed dozens of candidates “who are serious about addressing the climate crisis and fighting for climate justice,” including Keisha Lance Bottoms for governor and several state legislative races. GCV Action Fund focused largely on mobilizing voters for Democrats Peter Hubbard and Shelia Edwards in Georgia’s two Public Service Commission races.
