The political arm of Chispa AZ, MVP’s largest climate-focused partner in the state), has now knocked on 103,000 doors toward their total 250,000 goal!

Their door-to-door canvass is focused on electing a pro-climate, pro-environment Democratic majority in the state legislature (by targeting LD9, LD13, and LD23) and the Arizona Corporation Commission (which decides a lot of climate policy) — which will also help win Arizona’s eleven electoral votes for VP Harris and elect Democrat Ruben Gallego to the Senate.

The Arizona Corporate Commission, currently led by a 3-2 Republican majority, plays a key role in nearly all aspects of the daily lives of Arizonans. They decide how much people pay for utilities and how the state uses its water resources. By favoring corporate investors in their decisions, the ACC has placed an undue burden on working families. Chispa AZ is trying to change this — check out their ACC campaign webpage.

Three of the total five ACC seats are up for election this year, and Chispa AZ has endorsed three Democratic candidates to fill them: Ylenia Aguilar, Joshua Polacheck, and Jonathon Hill. By flipping control of the ACC, Democrats could:

  • Ensure access to clean and affordable water.
  • Increase funding for solar programs.
  • Increase water conservation efforts.
  • Lower water and utility bills.

Creating a new pro-environment majority on the ACC, Chispa AZ writes, “would start a cleaner, more affordable era for Arizona families.” And, by galvanizing pro-environment and pro-public interest voters around this powerful state commission, Chispa AZ will also increase Democratic vote share in the state’s crucial Presidential, Senate, and state legislative races.
