Grantmaking Strategy

Who We Fund

MVP operates like a “mutual fund” for political giving: We raise money from donors, then channel it toward the most impactful organizations and power-building work around the country.

We invest in groups that do the year-round organizing, base building, and advocacy needed for durable culture change, policy breakthroughs, and governing power at every level.

Four Circles - Local Organizing, Social Movements, Cultural Power, Political Power

What We Fund

MVP is investing in grantee partners working across three connected strategies:

Build state-level power

through year-round organizing in every key state around the country.

Scale up new-media organizing

to shape worldviews and win hearts and minds en masse.

Embolden Democrats

to fight for bold, popular agendas that can win back voters we’ve lost.

Where We Fund

We maximize impact by investing where it counts most, using our team of national and state advisors’ expertise, analysis, and on-the-ground insights to optimize targeting.

Because the state of play is always evolving, we are continuously fine-tuning our grantmaking.

Grantmaking Process

Our year-round grantmaking process takes place in four steps:

Step 1

Targeting

the most pivotal places and races, both now and for the long term.

Step 2

Vetting

via talent scouting, rigorous assessment, and references.

Step 3

Allocation

based on ongoing national and state-level analysis and strategy.

Step 4

Evaluation

via year-round interaction, annual reviews, and empirical tests.
