Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (CCI) Action Pushes to Flip GOP U.S. House Seats

In a year in which we could win or lose the U.S. House by just 1-2 seats, under-the-radar efforts in "red" states could tip the scales — including in Iowa, where MVP partner Iowa CCI Action is making a persuasive case in the media for a "new crop" of representatives.

In their recent op-ed, “Iowa needs a new crop of U.S. House representatives”, Iowa CCI Action took to the Times-Republican newspaper (with a readership of over 15,000 people, 50 miles northeast of Des Moines) to make the case that Iowa’s four House members — including those in the toss-up districts of IA-01 and IA-03 — are not delivering on the agricultural issues that matter deeply to Iowans.

Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund – Annual Membership Meeting

Here’s an excerpt:

“By siding repeatedly with corporate agribusiness and not sticking up for family farmers, Iowa’s congressional representatives have let us down. In fact, I’ve been telling friends and neighbors we need a new crop of U.S. House members here in Iowa. And that’s how I’m voting on Nov. 5.”

— Barb Kalbach, Iowa CCI Action

Over the past 18 months, Iowa CCI Action members have met with our House members and their staff to dig in on Farm Bill issues. We’ve asked them on repeated occasions – both in Washington DC and back here in Iowa – to support legislation and policies that would:

  • Stop USDA from using taxpayer money to subsidize corporate-backed factory farms
  • Establish tougher environmental standards for factory farms that pollute
  • Make sure federal conservation programs support family farms, not factory farms
  • Break up giant meatpacking monopolies and restore competition in livestock markets
  • Ban packer ownership of livestock

By siding repeatedly with corporate agribusiness and not sticking up for family farmers, Iowa’s congressional representatives have let us down. In fact, I’ve been telling friends and neighbors we need a new crop of U.S. House members here in Iowa. And that’s how I’m voting on Nov. 5.

After publishing the guest column, CCI Action got this message from a local reader:

“Well written on this info you’ve provided. I am an independent swing voter and hope for State Government to equal out more on Party majority. I always thought Republicans are Pro farmers so rural counties were well represented in their interests. I am Anti Trump so Harris gets my vote.”
