Minnesota: MVP Partners Standing Up in Solidarity

A note from MVP comms director Zo Tobi — the day after an ICE agent in South Minneapolis shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, one of thousands of volunteer legal observers peacefully documenting ICE in their city.

MVP friends,

My heart is heavy, writing you this note the day after an ICE agent in South Minneapolis shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, one of thousands of volunteer legal observers peacefully documenting ICE in their city.

The whole MVP team’s hearts are with our friends, colleagues, immigrant neighbors, and organizing partners in Minnesota — and everywhere across our country that our government is enacting cruelty, terror, and violence.

I wanted to send you this note to let you know: MVP partners are standing up, rallying their communities, and not backing down.

In Minnesota:

  • Unidos MN is calling for justice, accountability, and the removal of ICE from Minnesota communities.
  • Minnesota 8 (MN8) is rallying Southeast Asian communities to join vigils, become legal observers, contribute funds, and deliver food to impacted families.
  • ISAIAH and others are organizing vigils bringing together thousands of students, faith congregations, and people of all backgrounds in and around the Twin Cities. As I write this, they are also organizing interfaith leaders for a press conference calling for the removal of ICE in Minnesota.

Across the country, MVP partners are mobilizing rapid-response vigils and other actions to honor the memory of Renee Nicole Good and to demand an end to ICE’s brutalization of communities everywhere. Here are just a few:

Our partners are also flooding social media feeds in solidarity with the Minneapolis community — you can see a few here, here, here, here, here, and here

One way to help: In Minnesota, Unidos MN leads Monarca, an immigrant-defense, rapid-response network that has trained over 14,000 volunteer responders. Monarca runs a 24/7 hotline now fielding about 150 calls a day, and then dispatches responders to gather in large crowds, witness, document, and, where possible, protect people from being detained. To support this work, you can give directly to Unidos here

Zooming out: Year-round, people-powered organizing is how we will minimize the harm of this Trump/MAGA regime — and it’s also how we are going to flip the House (and maybe even the Senate) this November. And if we can do that, we’ll gain the power to block executive and judicial appointments, stop harmful legislation, launch investigations, issue subpoenas, and more — all while building momentum to take back the presidency in 2028. To make all this happen, MVP is laser-focused on supporting the most strategic year-round organizing and movement building in every winnable battleground.

We’ll be sharing more soon about our 2026 plans, but for now, I just wanted to reach out, connect, and let you know MVP and our partners are here. We’re not going anywhere, and we’re all in this together.

Thank you so much for being in this work with us.

Gratefully,

Zo Tobi, MVP Director of Communications
(On behalf of the MVP team)
