Legal & Operations Associate

Kristen Summers brings over a decade of grants compliance and operations experience to her role as Legal and Operations Associate, with a career that has taken her across a private foundation, a community foundation, a fiscal sponsor/intermediary, and a philanthropy consulting firm. Her path into compliance came through grants management — giving her a distinctive, ground-level understanding of where risk lives in grantmaking systems and how to build infrastructure that actually works for the people using it.

A lifelong learner, Kristen supplements her hands-on experience with formal study in governance, risk, and regulatory frameworks, including coursework at Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She has built and refined compliance processes across a range of organizations and platforms, with a particular focus on reducing error rates, improving documentation and adding creative flair, and strengthening the connective tissue between legal requirements and day-to-day grants operations.

Kristen is based in Northeast Ohio and outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons and finds balance by spending time outdoors or getting lost in a good book.
