Teamsters Against Trump

Back in July, MVP made a seed investment in Teamsters Against Trump, which has been organizing the Teamsters’ base of 1.3 million members to oppose Trump and support VP Harris. Now, they have knocked over 40,000 doors of swing-state union members, sent over 290,000 postcards, gained over 1.2 million campaign video views, and successfully driven an anti-Trump narrative within the Teamsters.

In an election in which every single voting bloc matters, MVP is proud to be supporting innovative efforts like this to turn out key constituencies in the states in which the margin of victory is likely to be a few thousand votes.

Teamsters Against Trump

We just received this update from them, and it is so good we are simply sharing it in full:

Teamsters Against Trump is an independent grassroots network of Teamsters working to stop Trump by electing Kamala Harris.

In preparation for a possible non-endorsement by the Teamsters Union, Teamsters Against Trump built an independent, grassroots campaign infrastructure. In August and September, we set up legal filings, a website, bank accounts, XFacebook, mass texting, and email platforms. We hired a coordinator, field organizers and a communications and digital organizing team.

When the Teamsters Union issued no endorsement, Teamsters Against Trump was ready. The day after the union announced it would not endorse Harris, our launch video got over 750,000 views in the first 24 hours and Teamsters Against Trump was cited in the New York TimesWashington PostGuardianNation, and Chicago Tribune.

In a groundswell of opposition to a second Trump presidency, Teamster Joint Councils and local unions representing over a million Teamsters endorsed Harris-Walz including in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada, and North Carolina. So did the Teamsters National Black Caucus.

Teamsters Against Trump launched a volunteer recruitment campaign, canvassing program, direct mail effort, and phone banking program focusing on swing states.

Volunteer Recruitment

Teamsters Against Trump issued a candidate comparison and pledge card to educate members and sign up Teamster volunteers. Teamsters Against Trump canvassed 40 Teamster workplaces with the pledge cards and signed up more than 1,000 volunteers.

Gating, Canvassing, Phone Banking

Teamster canvassers deployed by Teamsters Against Trump:

  • Conducted over 10,000 Teamster-to-Teamster conversations at dozens of UPS facilities and other Teamster employers in Allentown, Philadelphia, Grand Rapids, Jackson MI, Detroit, Charlotte, Raleigh, Tempe and Phoenix.
  • Are completing over 400 canvassing shifts in Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Phoenix
  • Have knocked on 43,816 doors of union members in Flint, Detroit, Milwaukee, Allentown, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Charlotte and Raleigh.

Direct Mail and Phone Banks

Teamsters Against Trump is reinforcing our canvassing campaign with a direct mail and phone banking program. We have mailed over 290,000 postcards on Teamster-specific issues to persuadable members and likely voters in Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Arizona. (Click here to see sample mailers from Michigan.)
