Progressive Maryland Using Relational Organizing to Mobilize Voters in Pivotal U.S. Senate Race

Progressive Maryland – March for reproductive freedom

In the unexpectedly competitive Maryland U.S. Senate race that could determine control of the chamber, MVP partner Progressive Maryland is supplementing phone and text banking with relational organizing, using the (MVP-funded) Empower app to mobilize 5,000 – 15,000 Baltimore voters through people they already know and trust.

At a cost of roughly $6 dollars per voter, this relational organizing program is an incredibly efficient way to harness the power of positive peer pressure — and to increase voter turnout in a community with a history of last-minute changes and setup failures to polling locations on Election Day. Just this year during the state primary, multiple polling places opened late or closed mid-day due to issues with supplies, equipment, and personnel.

In an election cycle in which Democrats cannot afford to leave anything to chance, MVP is proud to have invested $350,000 in Progressive Maryland this cycle to date.
