On September 19 and 20, MVP partner Georgia Youth Justice Coalition (GYJC), along with March for Our Lives and Change for Chee, organized thousands of students to join a school walkout to demand gun safety — and to elect gun safety champions up and down the ballot.

As background: GYJC “[builds] power for our generation – young Black, brown, poor, LGBTQ+, and allied folks – to win the schools and future we deserve.”

The rally, honoring the Apalachee High School community after the school shooting on September 4th, featured people directly impacted by gun violence and organizers demanding gun safety legislation.

In a state where the Presidential election could once again come down to mere thousands of votes, efforts like these to galvanize young progressive voters could literally decide the fate of our country for the next four years and beyond.

As GYJC put it:

“We know that a rally and walking out are just the beginning. If we want to enact real policy change, we have to elect gun safety champions.”
