Should I be concerned about Trump’s attack on ActBlue?

ActBlue is a digital platform used to process online donations by Democratic and progressive candidates and organizations, including MVP. The Trump administration has recently targeted ActBlue with baseless, politically motivated accusations and investigations. This has led to some questions about whether organizations can continue to rely on ActBlue, and if data stored in ActBlue is at risk of disappearing.

MVP’s donors or volunteers should not unduly worry about this attack or take any action at this time.

Here is why:

  1. ActBlue is well-prepared financially and legally to fight the attack, and the attack will likely fail to have any significant effect on ActBlue operations.
  2. Even if Trump’s attack were maximally successful and ActBlue were somehow forced to shut down, this would not happen suddenly. There is little to no chance that MVP and other organizations that use ActBlue would suddenly lose access to historic contribution or contributor data.
  3. All of MVP’s ActBlue data is automatically and regularly backed up in secure secondary systems as a matter of standard procedure. MVP is also prepared to process online donations using alternative platforms.

We should not let this attack succeed in its true purpose – distraction from our core work!
