Become a Volunteer Donor Advisor

Welcome to new possibilities for making a difference by connecting with other MVP donors! We’d love to have you.

The Role

Volunteer Donor Advisors (VDAs) help raise funds and build the national progressive movement by providing information, advice, and encouragement to other MVP donors, helping them give to their fullest potential and often encouraging them to bring their own networks into the work as well.

Each VDA has a portfolio of donors. This can include both those they already have relationships with and donors they meet through MVP. The size of each portfolio varies, but we suggest a minimum of 10. Some VDAs have dozens of donors in their portfolio. The VDA maintains regular contact, reaching out periodically in person, or via email, phone calls, or texts, to thank donors, listen, provide information about MVP’s work, invite donors to events, answer questions, and encourage them to continue to give.

Time Commitment

This depends on the number of donors in a VDA’s portfolio and their approach to fundraising. It could be a few hours a month, or more if the VDA has a large number of donors and enjoys outreach. VDAs meet together every other month online to get updates, share skills and best practices, and more.

You’ve Got What It Takes

Some VDAs are newer to fundraising; others have years of experience. We’re looking for warmth, enthusiasm for MVP and an eagerness to share its achievements, good communication skills, willingness to use a simple online program for tracking outreach, and a collaborative approach.

We’ll Help You With Everything Else

We bring new VDAs into action with approximately 1-2 hours of one-on-one or small-group orientation and onboarding, typically through video calls scheduled at your convenience. We offer ongoing support tailored to each VDA’s needs, including skill-building and mentoring for those new to the work, ongoing skill-sharing, technical support, talking points, and more. All VDAs’ requests are welcome!
