What is MVP doing about the redistricting wars?

MVP partners are actively supporting efforts to counter GOP gerrymandering — and bolster Democrats’ counter-efforts.

  • California: In 2025, MVP partners helped pass Prop 50, allowing the state to temporarily implement new electoral maps that could gain Dems as many as five seats in 2026.
  • Missouri: In 2025, MVP partner People Not Politicians gathered more than 305,000 signatures to force a statewide referendum in 2026 on GOP-gerrymandered maps.
  • Virginia: Pending a Virginia Supreme Court ruling, MVP partner New Virginia Majority is gearing up to rapidly scale up a campaign in support of a ballot measure that, if passed in an election on April 21, 2026, could gain Democrats up to four seats in the House.
  • Kansas: In January 2026, Republican legislative leadership chose to abandon an attempt to gerrymander the state's congressional maps before the 2026 elections. MVP partners actively pressured officials for this outcome.
  • Elsewhere: MVP is working closely with our ally, Fair Representation in Redistricting (FRR) Action, to support the highest-leverage efforts nationwide.

Note: As of now, none of MVP's 26 target House districts for 2026 are currently at risk of GOP gerrymandering.
