Nnene Janice Essien

Chief of People Operations and Culture

As the Chief of People Operations and Culture at MVP, Janice leads the effort to create a people-first yet high-performance culture. Her work includes the development of organizational policy and practices, compensation and benefits, recruitment, training and development, team member relations, and compliance. She deeply believes in fostering effective workplace relationships, self-awareness, continuous learning, re-learning, development, and wellness as keys to success. Janice holds over 14 years of human resources/people operations and organizational development experience, including previously serving as the Director of Human Resources at and the Chief of Talent, Diversity and Inclusion at Friendship Place. She finds happiness and purpose in creating new, tailored, and innovative practices that help every team member thrive.  

Janice is a first generation immigrant proudly hailing from Nigeria via Baltimore, MD. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Morgan State University and her Master’s degree in Human Resources Development from Towson University. She holds certifications in human resources and coaching (PHR, SHRM-CP, ACC). Janice is eager to create partnerships throughout MVP. She believes in a collaborative approach and will engage with you to hear your perspective. Her role in people operations is to help create an environment where folks feel heard and have a sense of belonging, all while serving the mission. She always strives to level the playing field and helps people say the unspoken to build true relationships. Two beautiful humans call her mom and she enjoys slow traveling, scratch cooking, dancing, and designing clothing and decor for events.
