Donate nowThe easiest way to donate to local Native-led organizations with a track record of voter registration, election protection, and getting Native voters out to the polls to make sure that Native communities are heard in the democratic process! These groups also work on local community building, advocacy and issue organizing year-round, in addition to voter engagement.
Curated in partnership with Native organizers. Shelby Jackson consulted with local and national Native organizers and MVP’s State Advisors to develop this fund in alignment with MVP’s priority states.
The Native vote is pivotal in Arizona, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, North Carolina and Colorado. 2020 and 2022 showed us just how influential the Native vote is, especially in Arizona and Wisconsin. In the last decade, Native American and Alaska Native populations have increased from 5.2 million in 2010 to 9.7 million in 2020, growing by 87%. Native Americans and Alaska Native people now represent 2.9 percent of the U.S. population, but 34% of eligible Native American voters are not registered to vote. That is 1.2 million eligible voters.
Build long-term infrastructure that lasts beyond the next election. We fund organizations and local leaders that are in their communities year-round, not one-off campaigns that come and go each cycle.
Growing Native political power is about more than just registering voters. It is about upholding treaty rights and holding the US government accountable for genocide. It is about reminding those in power that Native people are still here — a growing political force whose frontline efforts are cutting carbon emissions and laying the groundwork that future generations will need to survive. Investing in Native-led organizing is about honoring Indigenous peoples’ right to land, water, self-determination, and governance of their own independent nations. It is about centering Indigenous wisdom and leadership so future generations will stand a chance against the climate crisis.
All contributions are re-granted to groups. The size and frequency of grants for each group are regularly assessed by MVP’s grant-making team and state advisors based on where additional funding is most needed. Diné Citizens Against Ruining our Environment is a recognized environmental, all-Navajo organization based within the Navajo homeland. They are empowering local and traditional people to organize, speak out and determine their own destinies. Dine CARE educates and advocates for traditional teachings and provides a voice for all life in their Four Sacred Mountains. Among their victories on multiple issues, a key win is the reform of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act.
For the past ten years Bimi’ji 350, the native-run partner of MN 350, has led the fight to protect the water, land and people of Northern Mn from Line 3, a large tar sands pipeline that threatens treaty lands and the world’s only wild rice fields.
Honor the Earth uses indigenous wisdom, music, art, and the media to raise awareness and support for Indigenous Environmental Issues. Honor The Earth leverages this awareness and support to develop financial and political capital for Indigenous struggles for land and life.
Ojibwe's for Responsible Government is a new project of Honor the Earth, a national native organization which creates environmental awareness to support native communities. They develop resources for the preservation of culture, customs and land, providing both organizing and financial support to grassroot organizations. In Minnesota they have held Line 3 at bay for five years, using every regulatory and legal tool available while also supporting water protectors on the ground. Ojibwe’s for Responsible Government is organizing Native voters on the White Earth Reservation to engage in tribal, local and federal elections in Clearwater County.
Advance Native Political Leadership (ANPL) is an Indigenous woman-led organization that is working to build political power for Native communities by working towards equity in Native American representation in elected offices. ANPL partners with national and state-based political organizations across the country to support the development of a national strategy for Native-led political engagement. ANPL aims to increase the number of Native political operatives, advisors, and digital organizers to increase visibility of Native representation and reinforce political power in key states.
Native Organizers Alliance (NOA) is a Native-led national alliance dedicated to building the organizing capacity of tribes, organizers and community groups for transformational policy change. NOA’s organizing strategy draws upon inter-tribal traditional practices as a guide for social change. NOA partners with Native leaders, organizers, organizations, tribal entities, and non-Native allies to build grassroots movements for sovereignty, health and wellbeing in Indian Country.
NAVA organizes Native American electorate to create and implement a civic agenda that will improve the quality of life for Native families in New Mexico. NAVA works on voter education, developing leadership in renewability and sustainability, protecting sacred sites, and ending predatory lending.
Great Plains Action Society (formerly Indigenous Iowa) is a collective of Indigenous organizers in the Great Plains of Turtle Island, situated between the Rocky Mountains and the Mississippi River and stretching from the Northern Tundra to the Gulf of Mexico. Great Plains Action Society is a Native led collective organizing for progressive indigenous civic engagement, base building and voter registration through mobilizing people to vote based on ecological and ancestral boundaries.
A grassroots organization based on the Menominee Reservation working to revitalize their communities. It provides a platform for health and wellness by leading by example, celebrating the sacredness of life, and embracing their strengths as a First Nations People. Its leading powerful multigenerational initiatives including the Women's Retreats, Community Art, Energy Sovereignty, and the Protectors of the Menominee River.
Wisconsin Native Vote is a nonpartisan voter engagement project at Wisconsin Conservation Voices that seeks to address voter disenfranchisement in Wisconsin by removing barriers to poll accessibility among Native communities through voter education, voter registration, and social media campaigns.
